Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Database Administrator (DBA) to oversee the design, implementation, optimization, and maintenance of mission-critical databases for a federal government contract. The ideal candidate will have at least 15 years of hands-on experience in database administration, including expertise in installing, configuring, tuning, and supporting enterprise database environments. This role requires strong technical knowledge of Oracle database technologies, as well as experience ensuring optimal database performance, security, and scalability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build, maintain, administer, and optimize enterprise-scale databases, ensuring high availability, security, and performance.
- Install, configure, and upgrade database management systems (DBMS), including Oracle and other relevant platforms.
- Translate logical database design into physical structures, ensuring optimal resource allocation and data integrity.
- Monitor, diagnose, and troubleshoot database performance issues, implementing tuning and optimization strategies.
- Allocate and manage hardware and storage resources for database environments.
- Implement and maintain database security policies, including access control, encryption, and backup/recovery strategies.
- Support database migrations, upgrades, and patching to ensure systems remain up to date and compliant.
- Collaborate with developers and system architects to optimize database queries and application performance.
- Ensure compliance with federal IT security and data management standards, including FISMA, NIST, and FedRAMP.
- Document database architectures, policies, and procedures to ensure system reliability and maintainability.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of 15 years of experience as a database administrator, with a strong track record in enterprise database management.
- Expertise in installing, configuring, tuning, and maintaining databases, including Oracle Database.
- Experience diagnosing and resolving database performance issues, including query optimization and indexing strategies.
- Deep understanding of database security best practices, including user access control and encryption techniques.
- Experience with high-availability and disaster recovery strategies, such as Oracle Data Guard, RMAN, and backup/recovery processes.
- Strong experience in hardware resource allocation and storage management for database environments.
- Possession of an Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) certification or an equivalent certification in Oracle database technologies.
- Ability to work in a federal contracting environment, ensuring compliance with security and regulatory requirements.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Must possess a minimum Secret clearance; Top Secret clearance preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working on federal government contracts and familiarity with government security requirements.
- Knowledge of cloud-based database services, such as Oracle Cloud, AWS RDS, or Azure SQL Database.
- Experience with NoSQL and distributed database systems, such as MongoDB, Cassandra, or PostgreSQL.
- Familiarity with DevSecOps and database automation tools to improve deployment efficiency.
